What Fossils can you find at West Bay?

(Ammonite from the Bridport Sands) - 2008

At West Bay, ammonites can be found from the Bridport Sands, these can be found after cliff falls, which don't occur very often. The ammonites are fragile and not all of them are complete, often you will only find a half or part of the shell dissolved. Instead it is better to examine the Snuff Boxes on the foreshore.

Within the Snuff Boxes (which are Inferior Oolite layers with stromatolites), trace fossils are common but body fossils are not very abundant. An occasional internal mould of an ammonite is found. Oysters and belemnites are also found.
